In reaction to intelligence information of planned cult-related actions by Black Axe Confraternity members relating to the so-called “7/7” festival, security agencies have increased patrols and surveillance across Benin City and other local government headquarters in Edo State.

The proactive security deployment, according to the Edo State Police Command, is intended to prevent any possible breakdown of law and order in the days preceding and after July 7.

SP Moses Yamu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, attested that the action was taken in response to reliable information indicating that on the specified date, several cult organizations were planning to commit acts of violence throughout the state.

Owners of hotels, lounges, pubs, and other recreational facilities have received a strong warning from Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika not to permit illegal gatherings on their property.

“Any individual or business that facilitates or accommodates such criminal gatherings will be held accountable and dealt with in accordance with the law,” the police chief warned.

Additionally, he urged locals to be on guard and assist law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity or meetings in their neighborhoods.

The public was also urged to report any acts of violence they saw to the police by calling their emergency numbers.
