Prince William is continuing his mother Princess Diana’s legacy by supporting homeless youth through his work with Centrepoint, a charity she passionately backed during her lifetime. This year marks the Prince of Wales’ 20th year as patron for the organization.
On January 21, Prince William visited Centrepoint’s Ealing hub in London, where he met with young people receiving support from the charity. Centrepoint provides a range of services, including accommodation, employment, and educational opportunities, as well as counseling, to help young people rebuild their lives.
During his visit, Prince William participated in sports activities with the young people, including boxing and foosball. He also heard about the charity’s work and the impact it has on the lives of homeless youth.
The Prince of Wales’ visit to Centrepoint underscores his long-standing commitment to the charity and its mission. Centrepoint has been a key partner in Prince William’s initiative, Homewards, which aims to end homelessness across the UK.
The visit comes after Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, announced that she is in remission from cancer. The Princess of Wales had previously shared her cancer diagnosis and treatment, and her recent update was met with widespread support and well-wishes.
Prince William’s continued work with Centrepoint is a testament to his dedication to carrying on his mother’s legacy. Princess Diana was a passionate advocate for homeless charities, and her work with Centrepoint helped raise awareness and support for the organization.
As Prince William continues his mother’s work, he is also forging his own path in supporting important causes. His commitment to ending homelessness through Homewards is a notable example of his efforts to make a positive impact on society.
Centrepoint has helped advise the Royal Foundation on the blueprint for Homewards and provides ongoing guidance as the venture develops. The charity’s expertise and experience have been invaluable in shaping the initiative’s strategy and approach.
Kensington Palace previously said Homewards endeavors “to change the narrative and challenge negative perceptions and stereotypes around homelessness” through a five-year plan with several sites across the UK.
Prince William’s latest engagement came a week after his wife, Kate Middleton, visited the London hospital where she previously received treatment for cancer. During the visit, she announced that she is in remission, a milestone that was met with widespread support and well-wishes.
The Princess of Wales shared in March 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for cancer and said in September that she completed chemotherapy. Her bravery and resilience in the face of her diagnosis have inspired countless people, and her commitment to raising awareness and supporting others affected by cancer is truly admirable.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were also announced on January 14 as the joint patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, marking a new role for Princess Kate and an elevated job for Prince William. The Prince of Wales became president of the renowned cancer hospital in 2007, a position that Princess Diana previously held.
Princess Diana’s role at the Royal Marsden was one of six she was able to retain after her divorce from the future King Charles in 1996, before her untimely death in 1997 following a car accident in Paris.
Angela Terry, a patient receiving treatment at the Royal Marsden who got to meet Princess Kate last week, told PEOPLE that the royal made a real impact during the surprise stop. “She has such poise and elegance, extremely genuine and sincere. She is very personable,” Terry said.
Terry added that Princess Kate’s bedside manner was reminiscent of Princess Diana’s warm and compassionate approach. “She has this gentle eye contact as she talks; she reaches out and maybe touches their shoulder or holds their hand, and her smile is always there. The level of connection she makes with each and every person she meets is phenomenal.”
