Rema, the superstar of Nigerian Afrobeats, was winning awards at the 2024 ASCAP London Music Awards on Tuesday while he dazzled at the Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring-Summer Show during Fashion Week in Paris.
“Calm Down” won both the Top Streaming Song and Song of the Year titles.
Andre Vibez and Michael Hunter, nicknamed London, who collaborated on the song, were also included as winners.
With these victories, Rema now has three prizes from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, or ASCAP—the most by any Nigerian or African musician.
With six prizes to her credit thus far in 2024, Rema is the most decorated African artist.
He has received two ASCAP London Music awards, one iHeartRadio Music award, one ASCAP Pop Music award, and one Trends Award in Brazil.
“Calm Down” just made history by being “the first Afrobeats song to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US,” according to ZINGTIE.
