Rotary International District 9112 has made a significant contribution to the education sector in Lagos State, donating bags and books worth thousands of Naira to 210 indigent pupils. The beneficiaries were selected from six Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) primary schools, including St. Paul Primary School, Alafia Oluwa Primary School, Mushin Public Primary School, New City Primary School, Palm Avenue Primary School, and Layi Oyekanmi Primary School, which hosted the event.

According to Olusola Agboola, Chairman of the District Committee of Basic Education and Literacy, “We embarked on this project when we realized that some children were forced to abandon school due to their parents’ inability to afford basic educational materials.” Agboola emphasized that their efforts aimed to complement the government’s initiatives and expressed their willingness to partner with individuals who share their vision. “We believe that every child deserves access to quality education, and we’re committed to making that a reality,” she added.

Agboola warned that neglecting the education of these children could have severe consequences, citing Boko Haram and Area boys and girls as examples of the dangers of child neglect. “Education is vital for anyone who wants to succeed in life, regardless of their specialization,” she stressed. “It’s the key to unlocking their potential and creating a brighter future for themselves and their communities.” Agboola commended the pupils and teachers for their efforts in encouraging students who had dropped out to return to school, urging them to continue their good work. “Your dedication and perseverance are truly inspiring, and we’re honored to support you in this endeavor,” she said.

District 9112 Governor Femi Adenekan noted, “Rotary is the largest humanitarian society in the world, and we’re simply doing what we’re known for.” This donation is a testament to Rotary International’s commitment to supporting education and literacy initiatives worldwide. “We’re proud to be part of a global network of Rotarians who are dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities,” Adenekan added.

The donation ceremony was attended by representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Education, school administrators, teachers, and parents of the beneficiary students. The event featured a presentation of the donated materials, as well as speeches and performances by the students.
