President Bola Tinubu has extended palliative support to Student Union Government Presidents across the country. This gesture is part of the President’s efforts to support students and the community, according to Special Adviser on Students Engagement, Asefon Sunday.

While distributing rice to undergraduates in Abuja, Asefon announced that SUG Presidents nationwide would receive their rice soon, as the food item had already arrived in Abuja. He noted that President Tinubu understands the importance of students as leaders, not just of tomorrow, but also of today.

He said, “Today, the SUG Presidents across the Federation, by God’s grace, will also receive their rice from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a man who understands the importance of students as leaders not only of tomorrow but also of today.

Asefon explained that the rice arrived late in Abuja, around December 28th, and therefore, they decided to invite SUG Presidents to Abuja to personally hand over the rice. Two SUG Presidents from each zone were selected to represent their peers and manage the distribution of the palliative.

This initiative marks a significant milestone, as it has never happened before in the country’s history that a president reaches out to stakeholders and student leaders, particularly SUG presidents, in December.

“It has never happened in the history of this country that the President will reach out to stakeholders and student leaders, particularly SUG Presidents, in December. This is the first time it’s happening.”

In 2024, Asefon promised that students would benefit more from President Tinubu’s initiative, which aims to engage students and youth with the government. This effort has made students feel the presence of the government and experience its impact.

“This will be a time for Nigerian youth and students to reflect and express their thoughts while engaging with the government. The students and youth of this country are now feeling the presence of the government and experiencing its impact,” he said.
