Six Americans who were being held hostage in Venezuela have been released, according to confirmation from President Donald Trump.
This follows Richard Grenell, Trump’s special missions envoy, visiting the South American nation.
In a tweet via his X account on Friday night, Trump said: “Just been informed that we are bringing six hostages home from Venezuela. Thank you to Ric Grenell and my entire staff. Great job!”
According to reports, Grenell spoke with Nicolás Maduro, the president of Venezuela, to warn him of the repercussions of holding the Americans in detention.
He posted a picture of the happy Americans who were freed on Friday and heading home.
“We are wheels up and headed home with these 6 American citizens. They just spoke to @realDonaldTrump and they couldn’t stop thanking him,” Grenell wrote.
At least nine individuals with U.S. citizenship or residency were arrested in Venezuela, according to Venezuelan authorities.
The government claimed that some of these detainees were involved in a conspiracy to kill Maduro.
