On Friday, the Kremlin stated that Russia’s national security, not oil prices, is at stake in the conflict in Ukraine.

This comes after Donald Trump, the president of the United States, demanded that the price of oil be lowered.

According to information obtained by reporters, Trump declared Thursday that he would insist that Saudi Arabia and OPEC lower the price of oil.

In response to a query over those remarks, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia’s worries in Ukraine were related to national security, dangers to Russian citizens residing there, and the unwillingness of the US and Europe to hear Russia out.

Ukraine and its Western backers, however, deny those claims, claiming that Russia started the conflict as a land grab akin to imperialism.
