Following his comments on the deadly farmer-herder conflict, a Fulani herdsman went viral.

The herder, who goes by Ibrahim, claimed to be aware of the frustration farmers experience when cattle break into their fields and ruin their harvests.

He said that whenever someone beats or hurts his cow, he also experiences intense pain.

He admitted that he is aware that many of his colleagues abandon their cattle so they can roam onto people’s farms and ruin their means of subsistence.

Violence, he asserted, is not the solution.

According to him, the herders typically intensify the situation when the farmers react by hurting or killing the cows.

Rather than using violence, he counselled farmers to report these herders to the appropriate authorities.

In addition, he urged other herders to make an effort to reimburse farmers for crops damaged by their livestock.

He said: “Please, believe me, it’s not all Fulanis that allow their cows to spoil other’s farm. It’s not all Fulanis. I know there are the bad ones among us that allow their cows to spoil you guys’ farms. It’s very bad. I know you guys must feel the pain because apart from farming, you don’t have any other business. Like us Fulanis, apart from following cows, we don’t have any other business.

“But I have one advice for you guys, any time that you catch a Fulani man destroying your farm, please, don’t beat him. Just arrest him.”

He added that he seeks the farm’s owner and apologises every time his cow smashes one. According to him, some farmers beg him to cover the damage, and he does so, while others forgive.
