Rita Ogbolu, 24, was arraigned by Edo State police on Wednesday, January 15, for allegedly attacking two officers while they were on routine patrol.

Ogbolu is on trial for five counts that border on assault and conspiracy before an Evbuoriaria Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant and one Samuel, who is now at large, perpetrated the acts on Sapele Road in Benin on January 10, 2025, at around 2:00 p.m., according to police prosecutor Mr. P O Odion.

He stated that when ASP Monday Omobude and ASP Aghahowa Anthony were carrying out their legal responsibilities, the defendant unlawfully assaulted them.

According to Odion, the defendant violated Sections 412(2), 173(b), and 313 of the Edo State Criminal Law, 2022, by tearing the police team leader’s uniform.

To the charge, the defendant entered a not guilty plea. However, she was given N200,000 bail by the magistrate, Mrs. Endurance Osemwegie, along with a corresponding amount for one surety. She postponed the hearing until January 24, 2025.
