On Tuesday in Florida, Donald Trump, a Republican running for president, will hold talks with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
This comes after efforts to strengthen backing for Ukraine and push through a fresh aid package that Congress is blocking.
In a statement on Monday, a Foreign Office spokesperson said, “Ahead of his visit to Washington, the foreign secretary will meet former President Trump in Florida today.
“It is standard practice for ministers to meet with opposition candidates as part of their routine international engagement.”
According to a report in the Telegraph, Cameron’s conversation with Trump includes Ukraine, the Gaza war, and the future of NATO. It is said to be the first meeting of this kind between a senior UK minister and Trump since he left office.
Trump has expressed doubts about US support for NATO—an international organization that the US has pledged to protect when necessary—and his concerns about aid to Ukraine on multiple occasions.
While in Washington, Cameron will urge legislators to approve “urgent” more funding for Kyiv, warning that the country’s victory over Russia is “vital for American and European security.”
