What it called the “narrowing of the polity to a one-party system” was condemned by the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, also known as Ekklesiyar ‘Yan’Uwa A Nigeria, EYN.

During its annual general meeting in Adamawa State, the Church proclaimed that the ruling class must cease attacking its alleged political adversaries.

In his speech at the 78th General Church Council meeting, which is now taking place at the EYN headquarters complex in Kwarhi, Adamawa State, the organization’s president, Rev. Daniel Mbaya, emphasized the importance of allowing political freedom to thrive throughout the nation.

“We reject one party system and attacks on perceived political enemies should stop,” the EYN spiritual head charged.

He also made a case for the media, saying, “The press should enjoy their freedom and be protected.”

Mbaya urged President Bola Tinubu to refrain from executive irresponsibility and to formulate policies for the benefit of the general populace.

He urged National Assembly members to defend the nation’s democracy, stressing that it is our shared duty to ensure its viability.

Rev. James Musa, the general secretary of the EYN, told reporters that the General Church Council, also known as Majalisa, is a yearly gathering of pastors and other church leaders to assess the church’s achievements and difficulties and determine its future.

Tomorrow, Friday, April 11, marks the end of the ongoing Majalisa, which began its third day on Thursday.

With origins in the United States, the EYN is a 102-year-old indigenous Nigerian branch of the Church of the Brethren.

The largest national organization of the worldwide Church of the Brethren is the EYN, which has hundreds of branches, primarily in Adamawa State and adjacent North-East regions.
