The controversial musician Charly Boy has advised Nigerians not to give Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka any credence.
He said that Soyinka, who turns ninety in a few days, may be experiencing age-related dementia.
He asserted that this might be the cause of his recent words and deeds.
The 73-year-old musician claimed that the main issue facing Nigerians is that Soyinka’s close friends and family cannot stop agents of desperate politicians taking advantage of the Nobel laureate’s “medical situation” for their gain.
On Charly Boy’s Instagram page, he posted: “Prof. Wole Soyinka is aged over 80yrs, even tending towards 90yrs. For his age, some level of brain deterioration is not unexpected. His rhetorics and actions in recent times is suggestive of deteriorating brain desease, and as such he shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
“What we shld be worried about as well-meaning Nigerians, is how his family and close friends can’t ward off agents of desperate politicians who are bent on exploiting his medical situation to their advantage, no matter how low it sinks the once respected Nobel laureate.”
