The government of Benue State has explained why political meetings and gatherings are banned in the state.

It stated that Governor Hyacinth Alia took the action due to the state’s instability.

According to the state government, the ban in the north-central state extends until further notice to all types of intra-party and intergroup meetings.

Paul Biam, the governor’s chief of staff, disclosed this information and added that Benue’s unstable security environment made the restriction necessary.

He lamented that after what he called the “unprecedented influx of armed herdsmen into the state,” the security environment got tense.

In a letter to the state police commissioner, the chief of staff asked him to uphold the ban’s instruction.
