Veteran Nollywood actor Ganiyu Nofiu, popularly known as Alapini, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu and his associates, citing a lack of acknowledgment for the efforts made by entertainers during the election campaign.

During an interview posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Alapini voiced his anger, recounting how he and fellow industry colleagues committed themselves wholeheartedly to supporting Tinubu’s presidential bid — all without receiving financial aid or any form of official gratitude.

“We thought our messiah had arrived. Tinubu is someone we’ve loved for a very long time, and he did well within filmmakers. That’s why we came out to campaign,” Alapini said.

According to him, they actively campaigned for two months. He went on to criticize the administration for seemingly failing to reward those who contributed to the campaign. “Maybe their head is not correct to the extent of rewarding us. Apart from filmmakers, how many people have they rewarded, except those closer to them gaining from them?”

He also called out Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, accusing him of focusing charitable efforts solely in northern Nigeria while ignoring those who supported the campaign in the southwest.

“Will Seyi Tinubu say he’s blind and didn’t see us, the elders, when we campaigned? We were over 100 that campaigned. We were going around — both old and young filmmakers. Where others could not enter, we campaigned there. We were entering marketplaces as if we were mad patients.”

Alapini highlighted the absence of financial support during their campaign and mentioned the online criticism they endured: “Multiple curses were directed at us on social media regarding the campaign.”

He brought up his colleague, Olaiya Igwe, who famously went unclothed to a river in prayer for Tinubu’s victory, clarifying that contrary to popular belief, he was not compensated in any way.

“My friend Olaiya Igwe that went to the river naked for Yemoja because of Tinubu — the curses he received, till now he has not recovered from them. Nobody gave Olaiya a car, according to the circulated rumours.”

With conversations already surfacing about Tinubu seeking a second term, Alapini questioned whether those who once campaigned with passion should now turn that same energy into condemnation.

“Now Tinubu is going for second term. Should we start using the sweat we encountered then to curse them now? I’m not sure I’ll campaign for him again.”

He concluded by criticizing Seyi Tinubu’s outreach priorities: “That Seyi is now flying about to the north to pay their hospital bills is there no one in Yoruba land that’s sick? How many hospitals has he visited in Yoruba land to pay their bills?”
