On June 13, 2022, Bishop David Oyedepo, the leader of Living Faith Church Worldwide (commonly known as Winners’ Chapel), delivered a strongly worded critique of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. During a church service held at the Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State, Oyedepo labeled the Buhari-led government as both deeply corrupt and extremely oppressive — a claim that sparked significant public reaction.

Widely respected for his bold stance on national matters, the bishop did not hold back in his condemnation. Speaking to the congregation, he voiced his dismay over the nation’s dire condition under Buhari’s leadership. He pointed to escalating insecurity, worsening economic challenges, and entrenched corruption as indicators of the administration’s failure. In his view, the hardships experienced by citizens during this period were without comparison, declaring that no previous Nigerian government had subjected its people to such levels of suffering since independence.

“This is the most corrupt and wicked government in the history of this nation,” Oyedepo said passionately. “There has never been evil like this in Nigeria. I owe nobody any apology for speaking the truth. The wickedness of this government is unspeakable.”

Bishop Oyedepo also condemned what he described as the “oppression and bloodshed” that have become prevalent across the country, emphasizing that the leadership had failed to uphold justice, accountability, and the welfare of citizens values expected of any democratic government.

His remarks swiftly gained traction across the country, sparking conversations in both political and social circles. While many commended the bishop for boldly confronting those in authority, others perceived his words as excessively harsh and politically motivated.

Despite the mixed reactions, Bishop Oyedepo maintained his stance, emphasizing that his comments stemmed from a genuine concern for the country’s welfare and the future of its citizens.
