Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2008 Ballon d’Or-winning campaign has been voted the greatest season in the award’s history.
The public poll was held as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the prestigious football honour.
Fans were invited to select the season they considered the most outstanding among all previous Ballon d’Or-winning campaigns.
Lionel Messi’s 2012 season secured second place, while Ronaldo’s 2017 campaign finished third.
Messi’s 2023 season ranked fourth, with Ronaldo’s 2016 campaign completing the top five.
Ronaldo’s victorious 2007–08 season came during his time at Manchester United, where he scored 42 goals across all competitions. His tally included 31 Premier League goals and seven in the UEFA Champions League.
During that campaign, Manchester United lifted both the Premier League and Champions League trophies, with Ronaldo finding the net in the Champions League final against Chelsea.
