Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised the APC-led administration, accusing it of reversing Nigeria’s progress since 2015 while expressing confidence in his party’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.

Dickson urged Nigerian youths to organise and support NDC candidates across the country, noting that the party also intends to win a majority of seats in the National Assembly.

He made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving members of The Dickson Movement for Democracy, led by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Ogbidi. The group named him its Grand Patron.

The former Bayelsa State governor argued that Nigeria required a change of direction to address insecurity, poverty, unemployment and economic difficulties, which he attributed to years of poor performance under the ruling party.

“The ticket of the NDC is a ticket of restoration of our country,” Dickson declared.

He explained that the party was seeking to win the presidential election in the first round and obtain enough legislative seats to implement its proposed reforms.

“The presidential election is very important to us. All elections are important. We want to win the presidency on the first ballot. We also want to win a majority of seats in the National Assembly, where our president and vice president can run the government of reform and transformation,” he said.

Dickson characterised the 2027 general election as a public verdict on the current administration and called on young Nigerians to oppose vote-buying and electoral intimidation while ensuring their votes were protected.

“We are not for violence. We are not for abuses,” he said, advising party supporters to promote the NDC’s policies instead of engaging in personal attacks.
