2025 BET Awards: Burna Boy, Rema, Ayra Starr, others bag nominations

The nominees for the 2025 BET Awards have been announced, with the list released on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Five prominent Nigerian Afrobeats artists Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Shallipopi secured spots among the contenders.

Leading the Nigerian pack, Ayra Starr earned three nominations: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act.

Tems received two nods in the BET Her category for her empowering songs Burning and Hold On.

Burna Boy, Rema, and Shallipopi each received a single nomination. Burna Boy is in the running for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Rema for Best International Act, and Shallipopi for Best New International Act.

On the broader slate, American rapper Kendrick Lamar topped the nominations with 10, while Drake, Future, Doechii, and GloRilla followed closely with six each.

Winners will be announced during the live awards show on June 9 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, which will be broadcast on BET.
