2026: Osun West APC leaders demand equity in guber ticket

Prior to the 2026 gubernatorial election, former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Osun State House of Assembly from the Osun West Senatorial District have demanded equality, justice, and fairness in the zoning of the party’s governorship ticket.

This was the main topic of the statement released following their meeting, which took place in the capital of Osun State, Osogbo, on January 9, 2025.

Along with other prominent former lawmakers like Debo Akanbi (Ede North), Yemi Taiwo (Ayedaade), Abiodun Awolola (Egbedore), and Bayo Olodo (Ayedaade), the communiqué was signed by Secretary Ajibola Akinloye (Ola Oluwa local government).

The forum declared their unwavering support for the APC and its leader, Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola.

The group stressed the necessity for fair representation in the party’s leadership choices while reaffirming their unflinching support for Oyetola’s leadership.

The leaders urged the party to provide the 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District in their communiqué.

They pointed out that, in contrast to the other two senatorial zones, the progressive party has not yet offered their district a ticket since 1999.

“This imbalance is a matter of equity and justice. It is time for Osun West to have a sense of belonging in the Progressive Party,” they stated.

However, the forum made it clear that Adegboyega Oyetola, who they recognised as having the “right of first refusal” to the APC governorship ticket, would decide whether to grant their request.

Additionally, they demanded that grassroots political operations be immediately resumed in order to bolster the party’s support base and guarantee victory against the state’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, in 2026.
