Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

This comes just three days after his resignation from the NNPP, in which he cited ongoing internal crises and legal disputes that he claimed have undermined the party’s national cohesion.

After leaving the NNPP on Friday, the governor was scheduled to rejoin the APC on Monday.

Earlier, Jibril Ismail Falgore, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, along with his Deputy Muhammad Butu-Butu, Majority Leader Lawan Hussain, and 19 other lawmakers officially switched their allegiance from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the Former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), informed returning Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf that all individuals vying for the gubernatorial position have consented to relinquish their ambitions in his favor.

While formally receiving the governor back into the APC, he said, “I can categorically tell you that you are going to wins 2027 with a landslide because all those contesting for the same seat have agreed to allow you alone go for it.”

Ganduje added, “to us, leaders of the APC, this is a memorable occasion we are all waiting for. I strongly welcomed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf back to his home.”

He further reminded that, “we were in APC together with you, it was formed with you, but later on because of some political differences, political redirection, you left the party to NNPP. But now we are thankful that you are back to our party and your home.

“You as our brother, the Governor of Kano State, you are a progressive politician from your utterances, your policies and the implementation of those policies.”

He remarked that regarding APC policies, Governor Yusuf currently leads the party in Kano.

To end speculation and disputes about the party leadership in Kano, Ganduje announced that Governor Yusuf is now the party leader in the state.

He noted that President Tinubu embodies the qualities of a genuine Nigerian and politician, one who treats all citizens equally regardless of their religion or ethnicity, and he assured that Abba would emerge victorious in 2027.

Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, praised Governor Yusuf for his courageous choice to return to the APC, emphasizing that it is a permanent decision.
