The Labour Party, LP, is on the verge of being extinct, according to Akin Osuntokun, the former director general of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council.
He implied that certain people had been successfully used by the ruling class to undermine the Labour Party.
Osuntokun stated on Arise News that Peter Obi was not a member of the Labour Party, but rather of the Obidient movement.
He thinks Peter Obi would not have joined a party like LP if the Nigerian constitution had permitted independent candidacies.
“We know a party as such is heading towards extinction. But it’s not peculiar or unexpected. Many parties exist only on paper; the Labour Party was one of them before Peter Obi breathed life into it,” he said.
“Though they have something that works for them, they have a nuisance value.
“If any other party, for instance the party in power wants to destabilise any other party, they’re there to be used and they’ve been doing that.
“It’s a pity that the Nigerian constitution does not permit independent candidacy. If the constitution permitted independent candidacy, that is what Obi would have done,” he stated.
The newly established Coalition movement, of which Peter Obi is a member, seeks to remove President Bola Tinubu from office in 2027 (by the ballot).
Obi recently announced that he would collaborate with the African Democratic Congress, ADC, while he remains a member of the Labour Party.
