Under the banner of Bala Agents’ Mandate, a pro-PDP organization has called on Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State, to rejoin the PDP.

According to the organization, Amaechi and Obi ought to work with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed in order to reestablish a powerful and cohesive opposition party.

At a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, on Monday, the group’s State Coordinator, Amadi Chijioke, urged both men to abandon their plans to form a new opposition coalition, emphasizing that doing so would only make it more difficult to save Nigeria from alleged misrule and democratic regression.

“I strongly believe in the leadership of Bala Mohammed to lead the PDP to glory. I don’t think there is any need to bring Atiku Abubakar and others together to form a new coalition. I believe they should come back home — PDP is home.

“The likes of Peter Obi, the likes of Chibuike Amaechi — I am expecting these men to return and join Bala Mohammed in rebuilding the PDP, because right now, he is appearing alone in the system,” he said.

Habib Musa, the group’s national coordinator, endorsed the appeal and praised the PDP Governors’ Forum, which is headed by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, as the most powerful and reliable organization keeping the party together at the moment.

He blames the recent defections of the governors of Delta and Akwa Ibom States to the All Progressives Congress, APC, and claims that the Forum has remained a symbol of accountability and unity in the face of growing political unpredictability.

“The defection of two governors from our party has been touted as a significant blow. But let us be clear: these defections were not driven by ideology or principle, but by fear and opportunism.

“We assure the good people of those states that the PDP remains a formidable force, and we will soon reclaim the governments of those states through the ballot box,” he said.

Despite his current position in the APC-led federal administration, Musa made a direct appeal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), asking him to work closely with Mohammed and promote PDP unity.
