Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that he is not driven by desperation in his pursuit of the presidency.
He made this remark on Saturday while responding to those who believe he should step aside for younger candidates.
The 2023 presidential flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emphasized that his main objective is to help steer the country away from the challenges brought on by the current administration.
Having previously contested for the presidency twice under the PDP, Atiku has often faced criticism suggesting he is overly eager to become Nigeria’s leader.
Speaking as the guest of honor at an event held in Lagos to welcome new members from both the PDP and Labour Party into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku reiterated that he is not obsessed with occupying the presidency.
Represented at the event by Prof. Ola Olateju, the politician from Adamawa expressed that his mission is to contribute toward building a Nigeria that all its citizens can take pride in.
“It’s not about Atiku having to be president at all costs,” he said.
He went on to describe the ADC not merely as a political party, but as a people-driven movement aimed at transforming the country’s leadership.
According to him, the purpose of the movement is to reset the nation’s direction and help it reach its full potential.
