2027: We’ll decide on coalition or supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid soon – NNPP

The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has stated that during its August 28 National Executive Council, NEC meeting, it would make a decision regarding whether to support President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign in the general elections of 2027 or join a coalition.

Ladipo Johnson, the party’s national publicity secretary, made this claim in a statement on Tuesday.

Johnson revealed that the NEC conference would resolve a number of significant problems, including as preparations for mass mobilization and new member registration, upcoming congresses and the national convention, and a review of recent by-elections.

The current constitutional reviews intended to protect Nigeria’s democracy would also be discussed during the NEC meeting, he said.

Johnson stated that the NNPP is still open to different political alternatives that are in line with its core values and the interests of the country ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Politics is dynamic, but our actions and decisions must be within the context of principles and values,” he said.

He enumerated three options for the party: joining forces with another party, running for office on its own, or endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign.

“So, to this extent, NNPP is still open to the three options we have talked about in the past: to form a kind of alliance or coalition, remain as NNPP and prosecute the election as an individual entity, or support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election,” he added.

Therefore, the party’s spokesperson urged members to maintain composure and promised that the interests of the Nigerian people will come first in any final decisions.

Additionally, he exhorted members to get ready for the next nationwide mobilization and membership drive and to actively engage in the ongoing continuous voter registration operation.
