2027: Wike makes bold declaration about who will lead Rivers next

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Rivers State, Honourable Kingsley Chinda, will become the state’s next governor in 2027.

Wike made the declaration on Tuesday during a reception organised in his honour by Ogbakor Ikwerre, the socio-cultural organisation representing the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, at Obiri-Ehie.

While acknowledging prominent personalities present at the event, the former Rivers State governor introduced Chinda as the man he believes will succeed Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

“former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and, by the grace of God, the next governor of Rivers State.”

Chinda, who currently serves as a member of the House of Representatives, is expected to take over from Governor Fubara if he wins the 2027 governorship election, following Fubara’s decision not to seek a second term.

The lawmaker, a longtime political associate of Wike, has increasingly been viewed as the former governor’s preferred successor following recent political realignments within Rivers State.

Wike’s latest declaration is expected to generate further discussions as political activities surrounding the 2027 governorship election continue to gather momentum in the state.
