Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has declared that the current efforts by opposition leaders to unite against President Bola Tinubu’s bid for reelection in 2027 are doomed to fail.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye advised former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and others to stop investing resources in what he described as a lost cause.
Instead, he urged them to support Tinubu’s ongoing Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigeria’s progress.
“Over the last seventy years, the Nigerian political landscape has witnessed numerous attempts at coalition-building, often driven by a desire to consolidate power and challenge dominant parties.
“However, history has consistently shown that these coalitions rarely succeed.
“So, forming a successful alliance in Nigeria requires more than just shared opposition.
“It demands unity, strategic compromise, and long-term cohesion.
“The motives must be altruistic, not parochial or selfish, and it must embrace the management of peace and conflict, which are very paramount and essential.
“But critically looking at the ongoing coalition against the president, those involved are only interested in using the platform to revive their failing political careers,” he said.
Describing the coalition as a mere gathering of aggrieved opposition leaders, Oyintiloye said that their motive was not in any way for the benefit of Nigerians, but rather for their personal gains.
He said, “The questions Nigerians should ask these coalition leaders are: why form a coalition against President Bola Tinubu?
“If they were in power, could they do anything better than what the president is doing?
“But because of their greed, hatred for the president, and desperation to clinch power by all means, they are now running from pillar to post.
“If the present administration had engaged and patronized some of these personalities with juicy appointments, they would be on the front line singing and praising the same government they are castigating now.
“But the truth is that Tinubu is the master of the game, so they will fail as usual.”
Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, said that leaders of the coalition should go down memory lane to the 2023 general elections and ask themselves sincere questions.
“Prelude to the 2023 general elections, forces within and outside were against Tinubu’s election. Despite the fact that he was not in power, he still won.
“Now that the same Tinubu is in power, reviving the economy, how do opposition leaders think their coalition can unseat him?” he queried.
Oyintiloye urged opposition leaders, particularly those in the PDP, to direct their efforts toward backing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He emphasized that the president’s accomplishments across various sectors over the past two years should be sufficient to demonstrate to the opposition that their coalition lacks a strong foundation.
The APC leader encouraged the president to stay committed to his Renewed Hope Agenda and to build on the successful economic and infrastructure reforms that are enhancing public trust in his government.
