In response to the hospitalisation of several attendees of a free medical outreach in Abiriba, Ohafia LGA, on Saturday, the Abia State Ministry of Health stated that the state government had not authorised the distribution of medications to the general people by uncertified individuals.
In a news release issued on Sunday, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, the Commissioner for Health, said that the medical outreach’s organisers had not gotten state government consent before to starting the activity.
As a result, he declared that any medical outreach without Ministry of Health license is unlawful and could endanger the health of Abia people, and that those who do so would be subject to the full wrath of the law.
ZINGTIE remembers that numerous individuals were sent to the Abiriba hospital on Saturday after experiencing some medical complications while returning from a group-organized medical outreach.
Although Processor Uche stated that the identified victims of these unfortunate medical events are currently receiving medical attention at designated public health facilities within the state, he said that preliminary reports suggested that medications distributed during the outreach may have caused adverse drug reactions among unsuspecting recipients.
