Security alerts have been issued by the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria to American citizens in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, regarding a planned protest in the city.

On Wednesday, the Embassy issued a statement on its official X account, indicating that there is a significant likelihood of protests in Abuja today due to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The statement cautioned that earlier demonstrations by certain factions regarding the continuing conflict have led to violent confrontations between these factions and Nigerian security personnel.

“The Embassy strongly recommends that all US citizens in Abuja remain in their residences on Wednesday, March 4”, the statement added.

In a previous post, the Embassy cancelled all visa appointments that were scheduled for Wednesday.

The post reads, “Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S Embassy in Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Applicants will be contacted with information on how to reschedule. Please monitor our website and social media channels for further updates.

“For emergency assistance, please contact the U.S. Embassy at +234 209 461 4328 or visit the website. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
