Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shi’ites, clashed with Nigerian soldiers during a protest against “injustice against Palestinians by Israel” in the Gaza Strip.

A viral video from Friday showed large crowds of Shi’ites gathered at Bannex, Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse 2, demonstrating in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

This protest took place just hours after the United States Embassy in Nigeria issued a security alert, cautioning its citizens about planned IMN demonstrations in Abuja and other major cities on Friday.

The security alert listed several possible protest locations, including Banex Plaza, Berger Junction, Unity Fountain, the National Human Rights Commission Head Office, Eagle Square, Area 10 Shopping Plaza, the National Mosque, Al-Noor Mosque, and Fouad Lababidi Mosque.
