Trump urges US Supreme Court to intervene as things gets out of hand

On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump urged the Supreme Court to lift a temporary order that prevented him from using a 1798 law to expedite the deportation of alleged Venezuelan gang members, as part of his administration’s tough stance on immigration.

The Justice Department filed a request asking the court to reverse the March 15 ruling by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, which paused the expedited removal of Venezuelans while a legal challenge to Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act is considered.

In the filing, the Justice Department argued that the case raises the issue of who has the authority to oversee national security operations the president or the courts.

“The Constitution supplies a clear answer: the President. The republic cannot afford a different choice,” the department wrote.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upheld the judge’s temporary block as the case continues.

The legal dispute has reportedly led to Trump expressing dissatisfaction with federal courts, which have ruled against various aspects of his agenda.
