The University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Wednesday dismissed claims that a technical glitch was responsible for cases of malpractice flagged during its 2025/2026 Post-UTME screening exercise.

The four-day computer-based test, which ran from September 1 to 4, has been trailed by allegations on social media and in circulated emails suggesting that candidates were wrongly accused due to system errors.

In a statement, the university clarified that the breaches under review stemmed from “clear violations” of examination rules, not technical faults.

“These detections followed the use of multiple monitoring mechanisms, including secure video surveillance,” UNILAG management said

The institution further stressed that it would not release uncensored video recordings to the public. “We cannot disclose raw video materials due to data protection and legal restrictions. However, anonymised screenshots may be published to illustrate the type of misconduct uncovered,” it explained.

The clarification comes amid growing concern from parents and prospective students questioning the credibility of the screening process.

UNILAG, however, urged candidates to ignore unofficial communications and rely only on its verified platforms.

“The University of Lagos reiterates its unwavering commitment to integrity, fairness, and transparency in its admissions process, and will not be distracted by conjectures or misinformation,” the statement added.
