AFCON 2023: Cote d’Ivoire declares public holiday to celebrate title success

Cote d’Ivoire has proclaimed Monday a work-free day to commemorate Les Elephants’ victory in the Africa Cup of Nations.

On Sunday night, the hosts overcame Nigeria 2-1 to capture their third AFCON championship.

William Troost-Ekong gave the Super Eagles the lead eight minutes before halftime.

However, after the break, Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller scored twice for Emerse Fae’s team.

All night long, the community applauded the team’s accomplishments.

In the meantime, today’s Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan will host a trophy parade.

It is anticipated that high-ranking government officials, including President Alssanne Quattara, will be there.

During the parade, the president is also anticipated to declare a monetary incentive for the athletes and their authorities.
