Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has backed Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Shearer believes Kane’s remarkable goalscoring statistics should see him claim the prestigious award ahead of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast about his preferred candidate for this year’s prize, Shearer said, “It should be Harry all day. His numbers are insane.”
Former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker also selected Kane as his choice for the Ballon d’Or.
Lineker said, “Harry Kane’s had an incredible year. I would love to see Harry get it.”
Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards equally backed the England captain, while acknowledging Yamal’s impressive performances.
Richards added, “Yamal had great moments, but he was not on fire throughout the [World Cup] tournament. But for Harry Kane, like you said, because he is an Englishman. Yeah, I would go with Harry Kane this year.”
