Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has named Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly as his favourite player in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Richards made the remark after Lewis-Skelly’s impressive display for England in their UEFA Nations League victory over Czechia.

England concluded their international break with a convincing 3-0 win over Czechia, with Vladimir Coufal scoring an own goal and Harry Kane adding a brace on either side of half-time.

Richards singled out Arsenal’s Lewis-Skelly for praise, describing the youngster as one of his favourite players.

The former England international also argued that the young defender possesses qualities that should earn him more than a substitute role at Arsenal.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, as reported by Metro UK, Richards said: “Myles Lewis-Skelly is one of my favourite players; technically, he’s very good, he’s strong and fast, he has football intelligence, and he’s still so young as well.

“I remember his performance against Real Madrid a couple of seasons ago, and I hadn’t seen anything quite like it from someone that young.”

Richards further maintained that Lewis-Skelly’s qualities make a place on the Arsenal bench unsuitable for him despite his age.

He added: “Certainly, Riccardo Calafiori has occupied the left-back position for Arsenal, and they have incorporated Bruno Guimaraes into their midfield alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

“Nevertheless, Lewis-Skelly has abilities that transcend a substitute status. He is among the most exceptional young talents I have encountered at his developmental stage, and this assessment is not hyperbolic.”

Lewis-Skelly, regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young prospects, was also the subject of transfer speculation during the 2026 summer window.

Several Premier League clubs were reportedly interested in signing the 20-year-old, although no move was eventually completed.

Arteta’s side will return to Premier League action against Leeds on Saturday as they seek to maintain their second-place position behind league leaders Manchester City, having won four of their opening five matches.
