The manager of Fulham, Marco Silva, declared that he will be rooting for Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, two Nigerian players, in Sunday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Iwobi and Bassey were instrumental in Nigeria’s advance to the competition’s final.
Bassey has made five appearances in the competition, while midfielder Iwobi has appeared in all six of Nigeria’s games.
On Sunday, in the final at the Alassanne Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, the Super Eagles will play the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire.
Even though Silva stated he has missed the two players’ contributions, he still supports them to win the AFCON championship.
“Of course, we have been watching. It’s a mixed feeling for us. It’s been a long time without two key players for us. Right now, we are supporting them in the final,” Silva told a press conference ahead of Fulham’s clash with Bournemouth.
