Again, Nigerian pilgrim returns €1,750 lost in Saudi

Muhammad Na’Allah, a Nigerian pilgrim from Zamfara State’s Gumi Local Government Area, has returned the €1,750 (one thousand, seven hundred and fifty euros) he discovered at the Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

He gave the money back to NAHCON, the Nigerian National Hajj Commission, so that they could give it to the rightful owner.

This is the second occasion that pilgrims from the nation have shown such character; the first was when Abba Limawa from Jigawa State’s Dutse Local Government Area returned 10,500 Russian Rubles, 800 US dollars, and 690 Saudi Riyals.

The head of the commission, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, commended the pilgrim after accepting the €1,750 that Na’Allah had discovered at the NAHCON office in Ummuljud, Makkah. He said the act represented his name, Na’Allah, and showed how close he is to Allah.

“This shows his pilgrimage has positively impacted on his personal character, behavior and attitude,” Arabi told the Zamfara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board officials, who accompanied Na’Allah to the commission’s office.

The 52-year-old Jigawa pilgrim Limawa, who restored the misplaced funds, was also praised by the chairman last week for his integrity and for presenting a favourable picture of Nigeria to the world.

The traveller clarified that he discovered the cash in a waist pack while en route to the Masjid Haram (Mosque) for prayer.

“Initially, I wanted to ignore the waist bag and move to the Mosque, but on second thought, I said it might belong to a Nigerian, especially some of our old women.

“So, I decided to pick it, and I proceeded to the mosque. When I returned to my accommodation, I opened the bag and discovered that there was no Nigerian currency or sign that it belonged to a Nigerian.

“Immediately, I approached one of the officials of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, narrated the story and presented the money to him.

“From there, he commended me for showing exemplary character and honesty and told me that he would hand over the money to the NAHCON to ensure that the owner gets their money,” Limawa explained.
