Aid Organization Brings Hope to Ukrainian Catholic Church Amid Devastating Conflict.

Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) in Brooklyn, New York, has announced that it has approved and financed a staggering 977 projects totaling over $26 million in support of the Catholic Church in Ukraine since Russia’s devastating invasion in February 2022. The funding has been distributed across all 17 Greek Catholic exarchates and seven Latin/Roman Catholic dioceses in the war-torn country.

The support has been multifaceted, with an initial focus on providing emergency aid, including food, shelter, and medical care, to internally displaced people. However, the emphasis has shifted to pastoral care, including subsistence support for priests and sisters, training for seminarians, trauma care, and transportation assistance.

In 2024, ACN supported the acquisition of two vehicles that now serve as mobile chapels, providing pastoral care and spiritual support to those affected by the conflict in contested areas of the Diocese of Odessa-Simferopol and other parts of eastern Ukraine.

Bishop Maksym Ryabukha from the Exarchate of Donetsk, who is currently living in Zaporizhya due to the occupation of his region, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to ACN and its supporters. “Ukraine is grateful to all those who, during these difficult 11 years of war, including three years with a large-scale invasion of our country, were at our side, who have supported us, who have given us the possibility of living and growing, who have done everything possible to heal our wounds, to bring back peace to our hearts, hope to our thoughts, and faith to our eyes.

Bishop Ryabukha’s words underscored the significance of ACN’s support, saying, “Without you, we would no longer exist. Your generosity has been a beacon of hope in these dark times, and we are forever grateful.
