To prevent Governor Similalaye Fubara of Rivers State from representing the 2024 budget to the state House of Assembly, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN Kayode Ajulo, has filed a lawsuit.
The attorney requested that the court halt the action until the Federal High Court in Abuja hears and rules on a lawsuit.
The attorney for the plaintiff in the case with the number FHC/ABJ/CS/1718/2023 also requested that the court prevent the Speaker of the House and the State House Assembly from vetting and validating the commissioners that Governor Similaiya Fubara has chosen.
Ajulo specifically asked the court to grant the motion on notice connected to the lawsuit and to prevent 27 of the 32 State House of Assembly members from holding plenary sessions.
According to the ZINGTIE, Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, his immediate predecessor, have agreed to resolve the state’s political unrest.
An agreement was achieved after a meeting between the two opposing factions and President Tinubu and other relevant parties.
As part of the deal, Fubara was required to represent the 2024 budget—which he had already signed into law—to the State House Assembly members returning after their seats were deemed empty due to their defection to the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
