There are rumours that Ajuri Ngelale resigned from his position as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s spokesperson because she was afraid of being sacked.

Ngelale declared on Saturday, according to ZINGTIE, that he was taking a medical and personal leave of absence from his job.

Ngelale’s decision to step down as Tinubu’s spokesperson was subsequently confirmed and accepted by the Presidency in a statement.

But according to Premium Times, which published a story on Sunday and cited sources, Ngelale’s departure was due to his incapacity to perform his duties.

The article claims that certain members of Tinubu’s cabinet claimed Mr. Ngelale lacked the necessary “experience, contacts and networks” for the position.

“It is a misnomer and a miscalculation for the President to have appointed such a junior journalist to such a senior position. It is no surprise that he could not deliver as expected,” the source told Premium Times.

In line with Ngelale’s assertion, the Foundation for Investigative Journalism Nigeria asserted that the Presidency had sacked him.

Recall that Ngelale was deemed unsuitable to serve as Tinubu’s spokesperson by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) earlier this year.

In August 2023, Ngelale was chosen to serve as Tinubu’s spokesperson.
