Nicholas Ukachukwu, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the current 2025 Anambra governorship election, has cast his ballot, accusing his party’s agents of intimidation and vote buying.

Ukachukwu, who cast his ballot at Polling Unit 012 in Osumenyi Ward 2, called the development a threat to democracy.

“If there’s no seller, there cannot be a buyer. Some people have chosen to sell their conscience, which is even worse than those buying votes.

“When you give up your right for money, you lose your voice as a citizen. You can’t cry later, society must be blamed for encouraging this,” the APC candidate said after casting his vote.

He further mentioned that throughout the voting process, one of his agents was attacked.

Ukachukwu stated that there had not yet been any significant violence or injuries in Ihiala, one of the state’s flashpoints.

Onitsha’s traffic has been disrupted by the election, as security personnel have blocked off the Niger Bridge to limit travel and guarantee the secure transportation of election staff and equipment.

With more over 5,700 polling places open, voting is still taking place in all 21 local government areas of Anambra. In places like Fegge Community Primary School in Onitsha, accreditation and voting had calmly begun by 8:30 a.m.
