According to Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, his top priority is a free, fair, and credible election on November 8, even if he is still a member of the Labour Party and has run for its governorship.
Obi made the comment on Wednesday in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state while speaking to reporters.
The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender emphasized that all of the candidates running for governor were his friends and asked them to prioritize the interests of the state over their own aspirations going into the election.
“For this election, my party is Labour Party. I want a free and fair election. All the contestants are my friends. As a member of Labour Party, I am supporting our candidate, but not to the extent of vote buying because I can never buy votes.
“I cannot go to the extent of doing anything untoward for the election. I want the election to be totally free and fair. I’m not on the ballot, and I believe that all those contesting are related to me one way or the other. Let Anambra people decide who will be their governor. People should not indulge in vote buying. I’m not against any of them,” he said.
He emphasized that he has no personal stake in the race and insisted that the people of Anambra should be free to select their next leader. He also mentioned that he resigned as governor 12 years ago at the age of 42.
