The BASIC Fund, a San Francisco-based nonprofit scholarship fund, has received a transformative $20 million pledge from an anonymous family fund. This generous commitment will enable the organization to expand its reach and support nearly 2,000 additional students in the Bay Area.

Since its inception in 1998, the BASIC Fund has made a significant impact on education in the region. As a need-based program, it has empowered nearly 30,000 children to attend the school that best fits their family’s situation. The organization’s donors have collectively raised nearly $200 million to date, demonstrating a strong commitment to education and the community.

Currently, the BASIC Fund is supporting over 3,200 students across nine San Francisco Bay Area counties. With this new pledge, the organization will be able to further its mission and provide more students with access to quality education.

“With this generous pledge, the largest one-time pledge in our history, we will be able to welcome nearly 2,000 additional students,” said BASIC Fund CEO Rachel Elginsmith. “Our students are [five times] more likely to graduate from college than their low-income peers. If we can ensure that students have the proper support and resources during the critical early years, we can set them up for long-term success.”

This significant investment in the BASIC Fund will have a lasting impact on education in the Bay Area, providing more students with the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
