Anthony Joshua clarifies why he didn’t acknowledge Nigeria after latest victory

Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has finally spoken out about the controversial matter surrounding his decision not to acknowledge his Nigerian background after his latest fight.

Due to his behaviour, the boxer has been the subject of much discussion and conjecture following his latest high-stakes fight.

However, in a recent exclusive interview, Joshua provided much-needed clarification and insights into the reasons behind his contentious decision.

Joshua spoke candidly about the issue during the interview, addressing the questions and worries raised by fans and the media.

Joshua indicated that his decision was motivated by a “deeply personal struggle,” in contrast to assumptions of indifference or detachment from his Nigerian roots.

Before the bout, he acknowledged that he struggled with internal diversions and difficulties, which made it imperative that he concentrate entirely on his mental preparation and performance in the ring.

He continued by discussing the demands and pressures on athletes of his calibre and stressing the importance of resilience and self-care in the face of the industry’s constant attention and limelight.

“When I lost my last match, Nigerians were the people who trolled me and made mockery of me. Learn to show love to those losing, not only those winning.

“Those at the bottom need love, care, and support more than those at the top. When someone is falling, hold them; don’t wait to make a mockery of them. They are my people, and I love them still.“

Although some fans were disappointed and provoked controversy by Joshua’s decision, he thanked them for their continuous support throughout his career.

He proudly reaffirmed his determination to represent Nigeria in all of his future undertakings and expressed his pride in his Nigerian background.
