The government of Kano State has refuted speculation that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently ceased wearing the red cap.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, no directive exists for supporters to cease wearing the traditional red and white clothing of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

The clarification follows Yusuf’s appearance at a political event in Yola, Adamawa State, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, and other notable personalities.

The governor’s choice to put the red cap policy into action ignited speculation regarding a potential widening rift between him and his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, recognized by its unique white clothing and red caps.

Tofa addressed the allegations in a Facebook post, clarifying that the Yola event had a specific dress code and did not indicate any shift in political direction.

He wrote: “There has been no directive to remove the red cap. The trip to Yola in Adamawa State was a special event where important people wore a specific type of clothing. Everything has its time.”
