APC’s Elegbeji wins Ogun bye-election with 41,237 votes

Adesola Elegbeji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency bye-election, has been declared the winner after securing a total of 41,237 votes.

The bye-election, conducted on Saturday, was organized to fill the vacancy left by the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the former representative of the constituency, who passed away in January following a brief illness.

Kazeem Bello, the Returning Officer from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), announced the outcome, stating that Elegbeji clinched victory with 41,237 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 14,324 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received only 289.

Releasing the results in the early hours of Sunday, Bello provided a breakdown by local government areas. In Ikenne, where 17,477 voters were accredited, the APC received 10,227 votes, followed by PDP with 5,595 and ADC with 73.

In Remo North, 9,374 voters were accredited. The APC secured 8,052 votes, while PDP earned 992. The ADC got 37 votes, and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) managed 43.

For Sagamu, which had 32,574 accredited voters, the APC led with 22,958 votes, PDP followed with 7,737, and ADC obtained 179.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner declared Elegbeji the winner, confirming that all conditions outlined in the Electoral Act had been met and that she received the highest number of valid votes.

Additional officials who participated in the collation process included Richard Abayomi Sobayo for Sagamu, Akeem Adekunle Makinde for Ikenne, and Matthew Wheto for Remo North.
