Arrested Suspected Bandit Claims ‘Kwara’ Government Provided Them with Vehicle and Guns

Nigerian forces made a key interception in Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area, apprehending a group of suspected bandits who were roaming in a local security vehicle and carrying AK-47s.

The arrest was documented in a viral video obtained by Sahara Reporters, which shows the detained men lying prostrate on the ground with their wrists bound and being grilled by troops.

During the interrogation, one of the suspects, speaking in Hausa and Nigerian Pidgin, claimed that the Kwara State government donated their patrol car and AK-47 firearms.

He claimed they had been working in the area under the pretext of patrol duty for some time.

“We have been here for quite a while. We are using the vehicle for patrol. Wallahi, na the truth I dey tell you,”the suspect said in the video.

“Ilorin government na him give us this motor and the weapons. They were the ones that gave us the rifles.”

The suspect further insisted that the rifles were not privately owned but were collected by their superior, whom he referred to as “our oga,” implicating multiple individuals, including one “Oga Victor,” in the operation.

“We are not the ones that collected the rifles; it was our oga that collected them. I know because I was with them. We go patrol many times with them, including oga Victor. All of them are involved. The weapons are theirs,” he claimed.

Other captives, their wrists tied, were seen continuously repeating religious terms as the questioning continued.

As of the time of reporting this article, neither the Kwara State administration nor the Nigerian Army had issued an official statement regarding the allegations or the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

This interception comes amid a deteriorating security situation along the Kwara-Kogi border, highlighted by a recent high-profile kidnapping case.

Just a week before the arrest, three young men coming from their mother’s burial in Agboro, Kwara State, were allegedly kidnapped by suspected terrorists along the Odo-Ogbe axis of Yagba East Local Government Area.

The fatalities were identified as Isanlu Bidemi (33), Olumide (30), and Moses, a 17-year-old cousin.

According to the source, the kidnappers sought ₦10 million each individual, except the fourth abductee. The offer was rejected after the bereaved family raised ₦3 million.

Family members described the incident as a tragic double tragedy, saying that the abductors had increased their threats and beatings on the victims.
