Gary Lineker, the former England striker, remains confident that Arsenal will still secure the Premier League title, despite recent defeats in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
The Gunners had been dreaming of an unprecedented Quadruple this season, but their hopes took a hit after a 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.
To add to the disappointment, Mikel Arteta’s side was also beaten 2-1 by Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals just this past weekend.
These results have left some wondering whether Arsenal’s season is on the brink of collapse.
With a Champions League quarter-final match against Sporting on the horizon, Arsenal currently hold a nine-point lead over Manchester City in the Premier League.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Lineker remarked, “It’s been a tough two weeks for Arsenal.”
He added, “People are asking if they’re panicking or if it’s a crisis, it’s definitely a little wobble.”
Lineker emphasized, “The next game or two are hugely important for Arsenal. They need to steady the ship, there’s no doubt about it.”
Despite the challenges, Lineker still believes in their title bid, saying, “They’ve got a huge lead in the title race but it’s squeaky bum time. I think they will be fine, I think they will win the league, which will still be the main thing for them.”
He concluded, “The Champions League would obviously be an enormous bonus because it’s a competition they’ve never won.”
