As Senate Ethics Committee begins probe, see what Senator Natasha did

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct began its investigation into Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s alleged noncompliance with Senate rules on Wednesday, but she was not present.

After an hour of waiting, Committee Chairman Senator Neda Imaseun expressing disappointment over her absence said, “We waited, and unfortunately, she is not here. I hope that before we conclude this procedure, she will join us”.

He asserted that the committee was acting within its mandate, explaining that “Every petition is referred to us by the entire Senate, and the committee has the authority to deliberate on such matters. In this case, the issue was brought before us on February 25 by Senate Spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, nothing more, nothing less”.

Senator Imaseun expressed his expectation that Senator Natasha will appear before the committee before the end of the sessions, even though she was not there.

Tensions increased at a plenary a few weeks ago when Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Senate leadership got into a heated argument over seating arrangements.

The Senate unanimously decided to send Senator Natasha to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary action after the disagreement over seating arrangements.

Senator Neda Imaseun chaired the committee, which had two weeks to report back on its findings.

Natasha accused the Akpabio of sexual harassment, which led to tensions in the Senate over the seat dispute. The Senate President has denied any impropriety and rejected the accusation.
