Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has responded comments by Daniel Bwala, a former aide turned Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, said that the Presidency is in a panic over his expanding coalition of opposition forces.

In a previous television appearance, Bwala had counseled Atiku to drop any hopes of being president in 2027, saying that it might not be God’s plan for him to be in that position. Additionally, he claimed that Atiku had lost a large portion of his base of supporters, claiming that 60 to 70 percent had left him.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku, responded through his media office, calling Bwala’s remarks “disparaging” and based on desperation. He insisted that political diversions could not derail his mission to “rescue and rebuild Nigeria.”

The media release called Bwala a “political turncoat” who previously ran for Atiku and is now vying for favor with a “floundering administration,” criticizing him for his lack of consistency. Given that Atiku is Nigeria’s most powerful opposition leader, the statement charged that the Tinubu-led administration was planning smear operations against him.

According to Atiku’s camp, the administration is deeply concerned about the burgeoning national coalition being formed to oppose the ruling party, as evidenced by its “obsession” with Atiku’s political destiny. They asserted that the coalition seeks to confront democratic erosion, institutional failure, and economic collapse.

In spite of continuous political criticism, Atiku’s media staff emphasized his steadfast dedication to Nigeria’s future and his record as a reformist and patriot. The statement ended, “He will not be distracted by political jesters posing as patriots.”
