A 3-year-old kid in Las Vegas was f@tally stabbed by a babysitter while her father was at work.
“Responded to a stabbing incident in the 4200 block of Channel 10 Drive,” according to a statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police (LVMPD) on Wednesday, March 26 at around 3:36 a.m. local time.
“Arriving officers located a female juvenile suffering from apparent stab wounds inside of an apartment. Officers provided life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased,” the statement added.
The suspect was identified by police as 41-year-old Marketta Phillips, who was “located near the scene and taken into custody.”
The victim was identified as 3-year-old Journei Ross by the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner, who also noted that she died from “multiple stab wounds.”
“Through the course of investigation homicide detectives learned Phillips was babysitting the victim while the father was at work,” the police release continued. “At some point, Phillips stabbed the victim and then fled the area when the father arrived from work.”
According to authorities, the defendant was charged with open murder with a deadly weapon and put into the Clark County Detention Center. On Thursday, March 27, she appeared in court for the first time.
According to an arrest report, when the victim’s father got home from work, he discovered the suspect “covered in blood surrounded by multiple knives on the kitchen floor”.
According to the station, Phillips said authorities she had been residing at the apartment for the past year and that she and her father had an intermittent contact.
At the site, police found three sheets of paper with red marker notes that said, “Now we both have nothing,” and “See what happens when you [mess] with people’s lives,” according to KVVU.
Ross told WTNV that he had been at work on the night of March 25 while Phillips watched his daughter, something she had done “numerous times” previously, as he recounted the horrific event to reporters. He saw that Phillips had blood on her arms when he got home around three in the morning the following day, and he went right away to see how his daughter was doing.
Ross can be heard sobbing, “You killed my [expletive] child!” in a terrifying 911 call that CBS affiliate KLAS was able to secure. “My baby is not breathing,” they said. All over the goddamn bed, my baby just bled. You did what the f**k?
After a year of living with Phillips, Ross told KTNV. He said to the station, “I didn’t know she was a crazy case, you know?”
Whitson, who told reporters she had never seen Phillips before seeing her in the courtroom on Thursday, March 27, shares custody of Journei with Ross.
Whitson said, “I didn’t know this woman. Today was literally the first day I’ve ever seen this woman in my life. This is crazy, she took my baby.”
Phillips is being held without bond at the Clark County Detention Center. April 1 is the date of her upcoming court appearance.

A Rivers State High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed a motion on notice seeking leave to appeal as an interested party in the suit filed by William Fialasoika and 24 others against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the party’s congresses in the state. The sacked PDP Rivers State Chairman, Chukwuemeka Aaron, had filed the motion on behalf of those purportedly elected as state executives. Also included were Oye Fubara Igenewari, representing those elected as local government executives, and ThankGod Beke, representing ward executives As interested parties, they asked the court for permission to appeal the ruling that removed them from office. The PDP, the original suit's respondent, has already appealed the decision that declared the congresses invalid, thus Justice Stephen Jumbo rejected the motion in his decision on Friday. The PDP's state, local, and ward executives, led by Aaron, were fired by the same court on January 13, 2025, under the presidence of Justice Jumbo, after the congresses that elected them were deemed invalid.
